For people wanting other methods of prevention and treatment for bladder infections, I have had good success with using d-mannose powder. It isn't a drug, it is found in foods like cranberries and peaches, and our bodies even make some. D-mannose only helps in e-coli with infections, but e-coli causes around 90% of bladder infections. I take 1/2 to 1 tsp dissolved in a glass of water every 3 hours while I'm awake. I take it as soon as I feel the first twinges of a potential bladder infection starting, and so far it has helped every time. The way it is supposed to work, is that e-coli can attach themselves to the bladder wall because they have arm-like projections. That is why you can't get rid of them when you go to the bathroom. But the e-coli bacteria apparently stick to d-mannose even better than the walls of the bladder, so that you can get rid of them when you go to the bathroom.
I haven't read of any bad side effects from d-mannose, and I have had bad reactions to a few antibiotics, so for me, it's a good option. I haven't had any problems with taking it. I am hoping that they don't discover something bad about taking it, but until then I would rather take d-mannose than antibiotics. |
